Ocean Dream
Residence
Frequently Asked Questions |
What makes Ocean Dream different from other places?
Often we are asked what sets Ocean Dream apart from other places to
stay in Cabarete and the answers are numerous (some mentioned in the
text above and below), but there is one thing that stands out. And it
is really something that is very special. And it needs some explanation:
About 50% of the occupants of Ocean Dream's apartments and studios are
local residents staying in Cabarete all year round. These people are
either owners or long-term tenents from all over the world. Some are
Dominicans, but mostly they are from a huge variety of counries such
as the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, New
Zealand, Russia, etc... As a tourist, you you have the opportunity to
meet these incredibly interesting people that have made Cabarete their
home. This is something that cannot be exposed as one of the highlights
of a resort/vacation rental but it sure is one of the highlights that
makes many tourists want to come back to this magical place.
How often does the apartment get cleaned?
Twice weekly is included in the apartments. If you want a more frequent
clean-up, it can be arranged for a small fee.
The studios do not include a maid. They are delivered clean and are
cleaned after you leave. If you want a maid to come and clean-up during
your stay, it can be arranged for a small fee.
Are towels provided?
Yes, a set of towels per person is provided.
Are there laundry facilities on site?
Note that the 2 and 3 bedroom apartments have a washer and dryer. The
studios do not, however, there is a laundry service on the second floor
of building 108. It operates Mondays to Fridays from 1PM to 4PM and
Saturdays from 10AM to Noon. A big load costs DR$250 (about US$7.50)
- a nice lady there does it all for you.
How far are the restaurants?
Ocean Dream, itself, has a fine breakfast/lunch restaurant called Campaña.
It is located in the plaza, accessible from the street side of building
108 (the studios located on the 2nd and 3rd floor are accessible from
the pool side).
The is a great Italian++ restaurant, called Marabú, right beside
Ocean Dream. Check them out here.
The famous Cabarete Beach restaurant strip is only about 300 meters/yards
away.
How far are the grocery stores?
There closest one is at approx. 250 meters/yards towards Cabarete center/East.
The best one, with the most choice and best price, is called Jannet's
and is on the other side of town at approx. 1.3km (0.8 miles) East.
There is another one, with good price but less variety called Rosa,
at approx. 350 meters/yards towards Sosua/West.
What exactly is for rent and what is not?
This changes over time as apartments switch ownership. Some owners rent
out and some do not.
Where are the studios located?
All the studios, except the two ocean-front ones in building 102, are
in building 108. 108 does not have 2 or 3 bedroom apartments.
If I stay in an apartment of 105, can I use the pool of 101?
No, you cannot unless you get authorized or invited by one of the owners/renters
of an apartment in 101. The same is true between any other building(s).
How is the security at Ocean Dream?
It cannot get better. Every person on the property must have a "pass".
As a renter or tenant, you will get a "tenant pass" that you
keep during your stay. This way, you just have to show your pass every
time you get in or out of Ocean Dream's property. A visitor can only
get in if permitted by an occupant (tenent or owner) of one of the apartments
or studios and has to register at the front gate and leave some form
of identification at the gate. Those rules are applied very strictly.
Admittedly, this can get a bit annoying at times. For example, you might
forget your pass in the apartment when you go to the beach and you will
have to go back to your apartment to get the pass. But, on the other
hand, this is a tourist town, and as it is all over the world, tourists
attract burglers... and you can rest assured that these burglers will
not get into Ocean Dream. No one likes to talk about these things, but
it is a reality of a tourit destination and we think honesty is the
way to go.
